We Honor Israel
Mark & Rabbi Erica Gerson
Writer & Social Entrepreneurs
A graduate of Williams College and Yale Law School, Mark is the author of books on intellectual history and education. His articles and essays on subjects ranging from Frank Sinatra to the biblical Jonah have been published in The New Republic, Commentary, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. He hosts the popular podcast “The Rabbi’s Husband”. Mark is married to Rabbi Erica Gerson. They and their four children live in New York City.
Mark and Erica believe that philanthropists should make their investment allocations in the same way that financial investors do — oriented towards achieving the highest potential return on investment. In the case of philanthropy, the fundamental principles are lives saved, suffering ameliorated and opportunities created.
Consequently, they co-founded and Chair African Mission Healthcare and United Hatzalah of Israel.
United Hatzalah of Israel is a crowd-sourced network of more than 7,000 trained and equipped first responders. When emergencies occur, rapid medical treatment increases chances of survival exponentially. Using specially equipped motorcycle ambulances, United Hatzalah’s network helps save thousands of lives each year across Israel by providing medical treatment in an average response time of 3 minutes or less.
African Mission Healthcare partners with Christian medical missionaries in three ways: to provide clinical care, infrastructure and training. All are in service of strengthening the Christian health capabilities in Africa -- providing care for people in Africa now, while amplifying it well into the future.

Dr. Amy Rosenthal
Founder of The North Carolina Coalition for Israel
Amy Rosenthal, MD, lived in Jerusalem briefly as a child and has been deeply attached to Israel ever since. She has been shocked by the decline in support for Israel demonstrated by many leaders of the Jewish community, including religious institutions. This has motivated her to speak up and take action in support of Israel and the Jewish people.
The North Carolina Coalition for Israel is a diverse, grassroots, action-oriented advocacy organization boldly standing against antisemitism while unencumbered by institutional constraints. Founded in response to an escalating local climate of antisemitism and bigotry, we aim to secure justice and fair treatment for all Jews.
NCCI works towards building communities in North Carolina and America in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate. We understand that anti-Zionism is antisemitism, and that getting the truth out about Israel helps protect Jews everywhere.
